Wedding in Lazarou Beach, Sifnos | Amy & Mathew

Wedding in Lazarou Beach, Sifnos

Best man’s Character assassination wedding speech in Lazarou Beach, Sifnos

Amy and Matt’s wedding is  actually the first ever wedding in Sifnos I have ever photographed. Although this destination was always on the table every season, something would always come up first and then I would find myself booked elsewhere, to the usual places that I go to. The island of Sifnos is a dream to shoot for any wedding photographer. It is considered an island of poetry in Greece, as it is the birthplace of famous poets like Ioannis Gryparis. Indeed, walking around this Cycladic island, it is not difficult to see why it inspires art and even love. Sifnos’ whitewashed villages, secluded beaches and its low-impact tourism make it the perfect place to escape and experience true tranquility. What more could you ask for? Amy and Matthew did not hesitate when it came to choosing Sifnos as the location for their big day. More specifically, they chose Lazarou Beach, near Platis Gialos, as their wedding location, as it is amphitheatrically built and offers jaw-dropping views of the Aegean. The ceremony took place right in front of the sea, under an arch adorned with white linen that blew along the gentle breeze in perfect harmony with the bride’s long veil. The couple’s fun-loving family and guests joined them on the island for a day peppered with bucolic elements: men dressed in togas and sporting bay leaf wreaths, accompanied by sheep, added a light-hearted and humorous Dionysian element, while a live band kept spirits high with traditional music. The rustic, bucolic touches were also present at the dining table, overflowing with bunches of grapes and floral centrepieces. After enjoying a traditional Greek meal, the guests had the opportunity to walk around and admire displays of photographs paying homage to the couple’s love story that were artfully hung on strings around the premises, adding a warm, personal touch to the day. Under the lights of candles and paper lanterns, the couple and their guests celebrated by dancing, singing and playing limbo until 6.30 in the morning, wishing the night would never end. The romantic ambience of the island, paired with the sophisticated venue, ensured that this was a wedding no one will forget any time soon.

I was also very* happy to have this wedding featured in Love4weddings !
