If a moon-lit night under the Acropolis is the only romantic image that you can associate with Athens, it’s time to think again. Anna and Alexandros decided to hold their wedding at Island Art and Taste at the Athens Riviera in Varkiza, by the capital’s gorgeous coastline, arguably one of the city’s south suburbs’ treasures. The couple lives in Toronto, Canada, where they also met randomly at a charity event. Their relationship is testament to the power of true love, as they experienced the trials of long-distance during Anna’s studies in the United Kingdom. Several years and many shared travel adventures after their first meeting, when the time had come for Alexandros to propose to Anna, they both instinctively knew where they wanted to eternalise their vows. They had visited Island Art and Taste previously on one of their annual holidays to Greece and they could envision their dream wedding held at the location’s tiny chapel, which is so close to the sea, you can almost feel the waves splashing you. On a warm August afternoon, the bride joined the groom and guests in a bucolic garden surrounded by evening primrose and oleander right by the sea, her long veil carried by a young bridesmaid in an embroidered dress – like a scene for an old, classic black and white Greek movie. After taking their first steps as husband and wife, the couple joined the celebrations at the reception which combined elements of both Anna’s Russian and Alexandros’ Greek heritage. Guests indulged in a luxurious vodka and caviar bar, while also enjoying local grapes and wedding favors of delicious Greek honey. The full-of-life wedding ended with dancing until the early hours and many smiles, the elements of a successful wedding and the signs of a bright future full of happiness lying ahead.
