Margarita and Pavel’s choice of wedding location perfectly demonstrates the fact that Greece has a lot more to offer than popular islands destinations like Santorini, Mykonos and Paros. A local gem awaits you at every corner of this wonderful country, even if this is not a fact that is well-known by foreign visitors. Located in Southern Greece, Evia is actually the second largest Greek island and it boasts rugged mountains, cascading waterfalls and dense pine forests which stretch all the way down to its magnificent beaches with golden sand and crystalline waters. It can be argued that it is almost a “local secret”, given that it does not attract the large groups of tourists that other Greek locations tend to. Yet Margarita and Pavel not only managed to discover it, but they were charmed by it enough to decide to get married there. Indeed, hidden away on Evia island, atop a mountain, is Villa Delenia, a rustic stone and wood villa that offers the perfect backdrop to a dreamy wedding. The couple were officially named “husband and wife” there, under a stone arch adorned with olive leaves overlooking the sea. Following the ceremony, they celebrated their union with their loved ones at Villa Delenia’s stunning sculpted multi-level garden which features a pond-like pool and offers views of little villages nestling on forested mountain slopes. The dinner and celebrations were accompanied by live violin, creating a magical atmosphere for everyone privileged enough to be there and witness the bride and groom clinking their special golden cups and toasting together. The couple’s love, paired with breathtaking views of the blue sea surrounded by natural greenery and the rustic and cozy atmosphere of Villa Delenia, were the perfect ingredients for a romance-filled day that I was lucky to witness as a wedding photographer.
