Meeting your partner online is most certainly a sign of modern times. The proliferation of dating apps, such as Tinder, has made it easier and faster to find “the right person” without having to go through the trials of tribulations of traditional dating. While some cynics might say this modern type of relationship doesn’t last, Haneen and Alistair are here to prove them wrong. The USA-based Palestinian and Israeli couple’s common journey began on Tinder and, after experiencing the challenges of a long distance relationship, their union finally became official at their wedding in Monemvasia, Greece.
Situated off the southern coast of the Peloponnese, Monemvasia is a Byzantine fortress town that makes you feel like you have stepped back in time. Medieval churches, Venetian mansions (which now double as hotels and guesthouses) and winding, cobbled paths are all the elements that provided a fairy tale-like backdrop for the couple’s special day. The area’s mild weather throughout the year is another factor that made it an ideal and smart choice for Haneen and Alistair’s wedding.
The day itself did not disappoint. In fact, quite the opposite! The bride insisted on lavender and olive leaves as the day’s main decorative features, a choice which had a double purpose: on one hand symbolizing the much-needed peace in Israel-Palestine relations and, on the other, honoring the best of what Greek nature has to offer. Haneen looked and felt like a princess walking down the town’s narrow, cobbled streets, followed by all her loved ones and cheering villagers. Joining her blue-clad husband at the altar, spirits were high during the ceremony, which was followed by a perfectly-planned reception. Guests were wowed by an elaborate dessert display, complete with a unique (and delicious!) “donut wall” and enjoyed the wedding celebrations well into the early hours of the morning.
