Wedding in Agreco farm, Crete | Isabel & Karen

Image for the two brides preparation on the island of Krete

The island of Crete offers everything one could possibly wish for: lush nature, amazing sea, breathtaking architecture and incredible food. That is precisely the reason why Isabel and Karen wisely chose it as their wedding location. The wedding was held near the fortress town of Rethymno, at Agreco Farm, which is located on a hilltop offering magical views of the island’s olive groves and vineyards. The two brides exchanged vows to the sounds of flute and violin played by musicians, during a simple but ethereal ceremony at the picturesque chapel of St. Nicholas right next to Agreco Farm. Emotions ran high, as guests witnessed the couple, who originally met as teenagers, officializing their union. Walking hand in hand, each holding a brightly-coloured bouquet to suit their colourful personalities, the two brides walked away from the chapel as they were being showered in pink flower petals. The reception was a nod to traditional Cretan celebrations, which are commemorated with a lot of food, singing and dancing. The couple’s guests enjoyed authentic Greek ‘mezedes’ cooked using all-organic local produce, which were artfully served at Agreco  Farm’s tavern’s wooden table decorated with pomegranates, foliage and candles. This earthy vibe was complemented with wicker and wooden décor around the gorgeous yard, something which perfectly fit in with Agreco Farm’s vibe, as it features pergolas, a traditional watermill and a wood-burning oven. Laughing and dancing all night, the atmosphere was visibly filled with love and joy. The brides joked that one of the challenges of a same-sex wedding between two women is fulfilling the wishes of both brides’ heavily invested and opinionated mothers. It seems, however, that the couple made all the right choices, as all family and guests were charmed by the island’s aura, which, along with the beautiful brides, was one of the “stars” of the evening.
